The Good

A very reliable and long-lasting engine, more cargo space than the competition, and excellent standard technology for the price.

The Bad

Interior materials are very cheap including a lot of plastic, vibrations at idle are common, and the suspension is stiffer than the competition.

  • The Honda CR-V was completely redesigned for the 2012 model, and there are no major changes for the 2013 version.
  • Reliability ratings are great, according to J.D. Power, and there are fewer owner complaints than with the 2012 model.

The Honda CRV is the best car I gave ever owned.

I just love this vehicle. It is very reliable and is very roomy. It is very dependable. I have kept the oil change up and have put minimal repairs done to the c as r.

Julianna R

Honda CR-V 10/10 Extremely Reliable, Great for Travel.

I love this car, it is extremely reliable and it has incredible gas mileage. The entire car is spacious and very comfortable from the seat and leg room to the amount of space in the trunk. I have never had any problems with this car, I would highly recommend this car.

Nicole F

Exceptional vehicles highly recommend.

My vehicle is comfy and roomy. I have not had any major problems, just basic maintenance. I feel safe while driving kids around and it gets great gas mileage. My next vehicle purchase will also be a CR-V because I have been so pleased with my purchase.

Jennifer K

Best SUV out there... A must own vehicle for camping.

My vehicle has been safe and reliable since day one. It has a tremendous amount of space and gets good miles per gallon, despite it being an SUV. I like the way it looks and how versatile it is. I have taken it camping and have even moved furniture in it. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a safe and attractive car.

Phil h

Smooth and quiet ride and plenty of room. You can't go wrong with one of these.

This is a very spacious auto. Even though it is 5 years old it is still very quiet and smooth ride. The dealer is outstanding. Next time I buy a car there is no doubt it will be4 a Honda crv.

JOANNE H

Great height for drive through windows and total comfort.

I love it so much. This is the second Honda CR-V I have owned. Nothing wrong with the first one just upgraded the year. It is just the right size and comfort for me. Going through drive-through windows like banks and pharmacy are just perfect at this height.

Negative Owner Reviews

Max B

Wouldn't buy this car again if I had a choice.

Does not have any features and is having trouble with battery sometimes. The engine also sometimes makes strange noises, when starting it. The car seems like there are only cheap materials, many plastic used inside. The only positive thing is that the car has Bluetooth.

Daniel Zdanowski

Reliability

I bought my used Honda CRV LX last year and have enjoyed and ride and handling. I purchased it with 97, 583 kilometres on it. Now, 14 months later at 118,986 kilometres, it needs a new timing chain. I am not impressed and seeking a better price to repair it.

Gio L

Old Honda CR-V - plenty of problems.

It is an old model year so naturally its functionality has declined. The steering wheel is hard as ever to maneuver; there are plenty of leaks under the hood; the ac comes and goes and the clutch pedal loses function sometimes (because of the fluid leaking).

Erin M

Perfect middle size SUV, just needs a little power boost.

Honda’s engines last forever, but for people who fix cars themselves it is a huge chore to change brakes and do other little things. Also every Honda I have owned has had front end issue, especially with wheel bearings. I would love this car a lot more if it had a v6 option as well. With how big the car is 4 cylinders just doesn't cut it. It is not fun to drive, it has not get up and go.

Kt C

THe blind spots are very bad. Good gas mileage. We purchased the navigation system which comes in handy

I like that it gets decent gas mileage. One major negative is that is has very bad blind spots

Julia M

You can find a better car within the same price range.

I dislike the technology in the vehicle. I would like it better if there were more features like built in navigation. I don't like that the windows are not tinted. I do like the gas mileage.

Herbert J

That this car is reliable but should not be overpriced in the least.

Well the car handles pretty squirrelly. . Acceleration is decent. . No real problems mechanically. . Reliability is fairly high. . The spare gas tank is definitely a plus as far as build quality fairly spotty. . Spacious enough for a family of 4 but no more. . Like the trunk space. . The things this car's missing are automatic windows, more storage space, & automatic windows.

It's a decent car but nothing special. It will get you where you need to go.

It gets decent gas mileage which is nice. It has a decent amount of interior room. But the blind spots are terrible and the features are not very nice

What Problems Does the 2013 Honda CR-V Have?

The 2013 Honda CR-V has fewer problems than other compact SUVs, with a relatively low number of owner complaints. 2013 is an excellent year for the CR-V with fewer problems than the 2012 and 2014 models.

A grinding sound while starting up is the most common complaint owners have. There is a technical service bulletin from Honda about the issue, and the solution is to replace the VTC actuator. Replacing the assembly can cost about $800.

Electrical problems, including dead batteries are also a frequent issue. Some owners report parasitic draw from the electrical components in the car which kills the battery faster than normal. Replacing the battery costs about $130.

Transmission vibration while accelerating is also mentioned by owners. Replacing the transmission fluid, and updating the software usually fixes the problem.

There’s only 1 recall affecting the SUV, and is better than other vehicles from 2013. The recall covers the brake shift interlock, which allows the gear selector to be moved out of the park position without pressing the brake pedal. Honda will replace the interlock blocking mechanism for free.

What are the Prices, Models & Specs?

The 2013 Honda CR-V’s three trim levels come with five-star safety, fuel-efficient powertrain, and optional AWD. The 2013 CR-V is more expensive than some other compact SUVs, with a price range of $12,912 to $17,305, depending on the model and mileage. When new, the price range was $22,795 to $30,295. Depreciation is slower than average, dropping only 35% in value over the first 5 years of ownership.

  • LX is the entry-level model and comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels, cloth seating, keyless entry, cruise control, a rearview camera, a 6-inch infotainment screen, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 4-speaker stereo system with AM/FM/CD playback, as well as USB and AUX ports.
  • EX is a nice mid-level version with 17-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, fog lights, and a 6-speaker stereo system.
  • EX-L is the flagship choice and has leather seating, a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, heated exterior mirrors, and a 7-speaker stereo system.

How Long Will the 2013 Honda CR-V Last?

A properly maintained 2013 Honda CR-V will last about 300,000 miles, which is longer than other compact SUVs. Regular annual maintenance costs including oil changes, are average for the class. Repair Pal estimates them to be $460 per year.

Lisa F

It is reliable, and has needed only regular maintenance. The only unusual problem I have had is with dashboard lights.

Kathleen M

Yes, very reliable. I haven't had any major problems and have found it easy to keep up on routine maintenance.

Ian M

It is reliable. I have put close to 100,000 miles onto the car since buying it, and other than routine maintenance, I have never had to take it to a car shop.

Cory J

No. The only problem that I have with it is a clicking noise in the rear end, but the mechanic said it's nothing serious and passes inspection every year.

Stephanie T

It is very reliable, I have had the oil changed regularly and have never had any major issues with the car.

Melissa P

The 2013 Honda CR-V is very reliable. I haven't had any problems with this current vehicle. The only thing is the battery died but that is considered normal wear and tear.

Kelly M

It is not reliable in the slightest. The first problem I had was that the battery would drain itself with seemingly no cause. After more than 12 times to be in the shop, they figured out that the passenger side window lever.

Jennifer O

I have not had any problems with it so far. I have noticed that when it gets time for an oil change there is no oil reading on the stick. It needs to notify the driver sooner.

What Technology & Safety Features Are Included?

Technology in the 2013 Honda CR-V is excellent compared to other compact SUVs since the vehicle was updated for the 2012 model year.

  • Base technology includes a 6-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired to a 4-speaker stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity, as well as USB and AUX ports.
  • Upgrades include 6 or 7-speaker stereo systems, satellite radio, and voice-controlled navigation.
  • Standard safety features include antilock disc brakes, airbags, stability and traction control, as well as a rearview camera. Optional upgrades include forward collision warning, and lane departure warning systems.

How Does the 2013 Honda CR-V Compare to Other SUVs?

Ranking 2nd out of 24 compact SUVs, based on owner reviews, the 2013 Honda CR-V is near the top of the class.

In first place is the MINI Countryman, which is in the same price range. The Mini offers a more powerful engine, and has a nicer interior with higher quality materials. Where Honda stands out is with better reliability, and more passenger space. Between the two SUVs, the Mini is more fun to drive, but the CR-V is a better, longer-lasting choice.

One of the closest competitors is the more expensive Toyota RAV4. Toyota and Honda have similar reliability ratings, and are both long-lasting choices. Interior materials are also similar, but the Honda has fewer cheap plastic parts. Overall, the two SUVs are very close to each other and test driving both is worth the time to determine which one you prefer.

Honda CR-V, everyone wants one.

Very happy with it overall. Excellent safety ratings, powerful, feels like a big vehicle in a smaller package. Interior is very attractive, good gas mileage, excellent brake system. Have had no problems with it. Drives great, rides very smooth. Honda is excellent to work with.

Ilene R on June 25, 2021

My Honda CR-V has plenty of room for a family of four.

The Honda CR-V is a fantastic family car. It is reliable, safe and my kids love it. I have not has any major mechanical issues at all since I have had the car. To love the big trunk. Tons of room to haul around my kids stuff. I will always buy Honda’s as long as I need a car.

Molly S on June 25, 2021

It is a good car to have because it is reliable.

I have no idea, I do like my car because it looks like I am driving it well because of how smooth it drives. It is a good car to have but I have to share it with my mother because we only do have one car that we share. There is really no problems with the car itself, but it is a nice car to have and to drive.

Brianna L on June 24, 2021

The best car I ever have in my life.

It is comfortable sometime tired have to be readjusted and need air added to the vehicle as well. The performance of this car is great overall. No scratches or dents. Comfortable to drive in. Never had issues. I like how this car had cup holders and is a 4 seat car.

Chelsea T on June 21, 2021

My reliable blue Honda CR-V.

I love my Honda CR-V! I first got this car when it was only about 2 years old, back in 2015. It seemed to be the next big thing in terms of SUVs back then and I was thrilled with all that the car had offered me. It provides exceptional comfort, especially during cross country road trips, and it has a very good fuel efficient set up. I can go up to 400 miles in my car until I have to fill up the gas tank again. The Honda CR-V is an extremely reliable car that has always been there for me when I need. There have rarely been any mishaps with this car, where I can always count on it to get me where I need to be at the right time. It has never once failed on me and has only become stronger over the years. It even includes a navigation system and rear view camera that was so way ahead of its time that it feels like a new car every time I walk into it. For being a 7 year old car, it is quite the trooper.

Kris B on June 20, 2021

Reliable, safe, buy again.

CR-V is very reliable. I have had the car for 7 years, and I have never needed more than the typical maintenance. It is safe and dependable. I plan to get a new one in a few years. It is awesome. Plus, so much more trunk space than comparable cars from other companies.

Stephen R on June 17, 2021

2013 Honda CR-V good reliable value.

I have the middle trim package which includes Bluetooth, four wheel drive and a sunroof. The car is very versatile I enjoy the way all seats fold completely flat in the back. I notice there are a lot of similar vehicles on the road. The car also drives well in northeastern United States winters. The initial set of tires on the car had to be replaced after 26,000 miles. There have been no major or minor mechanical problems since I owned the vehicle which is one of the main reasons I purchased the vehicle.

Allegra C on June 4, 2021

The Honda CR-V is both extremely reliable and comfortable!

My Honda CR-V has been very reliable and with little problems. I take it in once a year for servicing and outside that I have only had one instance where my battery died. The car has real leather seats and a very spacious backseat/trunk making it a very comfortable car. The gas mileage is pretty good and the car takes cheaper gas which is another plus. The voice command technology however is terrible and the touch screen is a little slow but that could be because the car is nearly 8 years old.

Mal P on June 2, 2021

I love the Honda CR-V it is a dream to drive.

I love my Honda CR-V it is perfect sized for my family of 3 with room to spare it runs great and get awesome gas mileage. The folding seats is great for getting groceries and fitting bikes in the back with no problem. The all wheel drive get through the snow with ease.

pam S on June 2, 2021

An overall decent vehicle.

This vehicle has been very reliable. There have been no issues with it mechanically. However, it is a little smaller than I would like for comfort, but it does get fairly good mileage both locally and on the highway around 25 or 26 mpg in the city and sometimes as much as 34 mpg on the highway.

Rebeka C on May 25, 2021

Comfortable and economical.

I really like my car, I have had it for a few years now and it has not had any major problems. It is a relatively fast, light and versatile car. It is quite economical. The seats are comfortable, leather and with automatic adjustment. I had some problems with oil leak and battery but nothing too much. It is a great car for the city but also for taking the road and traveling in a comfortable, pleasant and economical way.

June W on May 14, 2021

I like the gas feature and the ability to use cruise control.

It has been a really good car, hardly any repairs. Only problem is other people hitting it in the parking lot doing damage to it. The air conditioning is pretty good and it has a lot of extra features such as it tells how much gas you have and how far you can drive on the gas you have.

Sue M on May 10, 2021

CR-V is perfect for older people. There is lots of room for walkers/wheelchairs.

I am 74 yrs old and it can be difficult to enter and exit most sedans as they sit lower. The CR-V fits me the best. I love driving it, and have a lot of room for others and things we need to take. It is comfortable and efficient. Mine is white and I love the color.

Nancy W on May 8, 2021

Trunk space. This car has a lot of space if you ever need to help someone move.

This car has been very reliable, however I wish the ac was stronger. I have taken this car on multiple road trips and never gave me an issue. I like the fact that the back seat folds down and there is a lot of space to put stuff in. I was able to fit a bike and even a water heater.

2013 Honda CR-V: perfect family/long distance car.

I love this car! Perfect for road tripping with the armrests, comfy seats and large backseat/trunk. I haven’t had any big problems with this car except for routine fixes such as oil change or tire replacements. This car is good on gas which makes it a great car if you drive often. The radio is nice from both the front and the back seats. Also there’s back windshield wipers!

Sarah C on May 5, 2021

I love my Honda CR-V.

I love my Honda CR-V. The only performance issues I have had were with the breaks. Sometimes the car will get shaky when using the breaks. I have taken it in to multiple shops to get this fixed but so far the problem has not been able to be solved. Other than that - the car runs smoothly, gets excellent gas mileage, is comfortable and spacious and meets all my needs.

Robin P on April 28, 2021

It is great in the snow. I love it.

Great in the snow. Never had any problems. Love it., I would buy another one. Hondas are great. I feel safe with my grandkids in the car. Anyone that I have let drive it said what a great handling car. And I don't like driving in snow but don't mind it with my car.

Yirel F on April 27, 2021

I love my SUV, it is a great family friendly vehicle.

I have had this vehicle since 2016. Love my car, however I do wish that the first, second and third row of seats had more space. And that the trunk was bigger. Otherwise I love the SUV. It is great for my family of 4. Great for family road trips and packing on extra guests.

Gina C on April 26, 2021

Indoor lights change to colors.

Rear wheel alignment on a non 4 wheel drive version. I am told I have to repair it to make it 4 wheel drive to be able to align correctly that makes no sense. The repair will take over 1000 to fix something that is not what my car was made as to create something I do not want.

Richard S on April 23, 2021

The best engine for the long haul.

The car is great on gas 22 mph in town and 30-32 Hwy. The sound system is great crystal clear. Has Bluetooth can connect more than one phone. Excellent handling in turns and tight spaces. As great off road as on road. Comfort for people of all sizes and spaces. Room enough for 5 plus pets.

Honda CR-V 2013: drivable and functional.

The Honda CR-V is highly reliable and easily drivable. The drive is smooth, comfortable, and has lots of room for people and packing. The back seats fold all the way down for more storage. It has a sunroof and back windshield wiper with heated rear window.

Gordon F on April 15, 2021

My great Honda CR-V experience.

Very comfortable seats. Lots of leg and storage room for all passengers. Rear seats recline, love it. Very high reliability. I love the plastic stays nice longer. A bit loud when in motion. Has been very reliable with very comfortable seats. Great for small families.

AnnMarie N on April 12, 2021

Best handling in poor weather.

The CR-V with AWD is excellent driving, especially in wet or snowy weather. It handles beautifully and has few to zero problems. It is practical and comfortable and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for good mileage, handling, and running.

Taryn S on April 8, 2021

Overall great car with nice features.

It is kind of cramped if you have kids that need car seats, but otherwise it is great. It is a little smaller, but driving it is easier than driving an odyssey. The children of some neighbors of ours named our silver one sparkles! It is a nice fun car and I enjoy it.

Tarah L on April 8, 2021

Small SUV. Great family vehicle. Car seats fit easily into it.

Love that it is great on gas, very reliable, inexpensive to fix. I love the look of it. It's easy to see in. Comfortable. I like how much room it has in the front and back seats. Lots of room for when we pack for vacations for a family of 4. I like how easy the seats fold down.

William E on April 3, 2021

Lasts forever in that mileage in excess 150,000 miles is normal.

No complaints. Good on mileage, dependable, great maintenance, holds value, expect to drive 150,000 plus with few issues.

Heidi B on April 3, 2021

It is very popular. It does not fit 3 kids well but fits two kids great

I love having enough space but it not being too bulky. There is plenty of legroom. I like the features

Kristen T on April 1, 2021

Great vehicle for any occasion.

My CR-V is great for all weather conditions and does really well in the snow. I like the economy feature that allows me to save on gas. The car is spacious and adaptable since the back seats fold down. It makes it easy to move furniture or larger items. It also is enough space to go to the drive in theater with. Driving is smooth and easy. I like the lumbar support in addition to the different variation in seat and wheel movement. The heated leather seats are also great in the winter. The sunroof is a nice touch and is great for summer days. The leather does not get too hot, even with the sun roof. The stereo is good with the basic package, upgrading to Bluetooth calling is a must. There is plenty of storage in the vehicle which is great for those who like to be well prepared. It is easy to keep clean and is very durable. I find that the seats are comfortable and the leg room is spacious even for taller passengers. I have used this vehicle on many road trips and find that it is exactly the vehicle you need for a trip.

Beth H on March 31, 2021

Overall great vehicle for families.

Great gas mileage. Comfortable seating. It rides great. Lots of space. Great for vacation or around town. Comfortable heated leather seats that are easy to clean. Luggage rack. It has a sunroof that is great for pretty days or starry nights. Bluetooth.

Stephanie D on March 29, 2021

It will last them many years with proper care and maintenance.

Only issue I have had is the battery dying on my fairly early. . . Luckily, the vehicle was still under warranty so that was replaced for free. Overall, this is a reliable and dependable vehicle, and I like that the gas mileage is pretty good for an SUV.

Judy B on March 28, 2021

Best vehicle I have ever owned.

I have been driving for 49 years and have owned well over a dozen vehicles. I have never had a vehicle with such good gas mileage. This vehicle has airbags on the side and front for all passenger and is so solid. Oil changes are based not on mileage but on driving conditions and miles. I have always purchased new vehicles and this by far is the best purchase I have ever made. I love reliability and safety of this SUV,

Marilyn M on March 26, 2021

In love with my Honda CR-V - an ideal vehicle for retirement.

I love my Honda CR-V. I have owned two. Prior to that I owned a Honda civic. The Honda CR-V is quite versatile, very comfortable, easy to handle, and has never given me a bit of trouble. I have owned this car for approximately seven years and my only expense other than regular maintenance was replacing the tires. Honda makes a good product.

Pat W on March 24, 2021

Reliable. Fun to drive. Low maintenance. Gas savings.

There is no problems on my CR-V. Good performance and it is very reliable vehicle. Easy to drive and very comfort. All basic features are easy to reach and work perfectly. This vehicle is low maintenance and cost less than other cars to maintain it. Also it has good gas mileage. Good vehicle to own for a long term basis.

Jamie D on March 21, 2021

Comfortable and reliable family vehicle.

I preferred the center console on the 2008 - it afforded more room. Also, the heating is not always the most reliable on the drivers side of the car. Otherwise I am very satisfied. It is very comfortable - it fits a family of four comfortably and holds a lot in the trunk.

Kathy B on March 20, 2021

I like how I sit higher up. It's easier to get in and out of.

My car has been reliable. So far the only repair has been brakes. It's comfortable. I like sitting higher up than a regular car.

elizabeth H on March 19, 2021

Car has a rear window wiper.

No problems with this car. Gas mileage is good, lots of room in the back. Controls are well placed and easily utilized. Car is serviced every time oil drops to 15%. No extra repairs or costs with this car. I would highly recommend this model to anyone looking for a good car.

maureen A on March 19, 2021

Good dog carrying vehicle.

My vehicle is roomy and has plenty of cargo room in the back. I drive my dogs around in it and it is roomy enough for them. It has the right amount of pick-up for getting on the freeway. It is reliable and has not needed repairs. It has the proper amount of legroom and I have no complaints.

2013 Honda CR-V with AWD and built-in nav.

I purchased the CR-V with the built-in navigation system, which I love, and that particular trim package also came with XM radio capability, heated seats and a back-up camera. These are all items that I never would have thought to add on, but now I do not know how I lived without them for so long. I do wish there was some kind of automatic update for the navigation system rather than having to purchase a manual upgrade periodically, especially since it never seems fully up-to-date with all road and location changes. The mileage is reasonable, and I love the AWD for the northeast winters. That combined with the anti-lock brakes and stability control has proven indispensable time and again. I find the car quite comfortable to drive, but my big & tall boyfriend finds the passenger seating area to be a bit cramped. I do keep it regularly maintained at the dealership, and additional wear and tear repairs have been minimal. In general, this car has not disappointed me. As my fourth consecutive Honda (out of the five cars I have owned in my life), it has satisfactorily continued my enduring and reliable relationship with the Honda brand.

Jamie R on March 17, 2021

Honda has a reliable reputation and they seem to last a long time.

I like that my car has heated seats. I do not like the noisy vtc actuator. Honda should look into fixing that problem.

Stephen A on March 16, 2021

The CR-V is a quality vehicle.

The Honda CR-V is a well throughout and designed small sport utility vehicle. This vehicle is very versatile and easy to use. A dependable car which gets great miles per gallon and semi long range. It has easy to use safety features as well as modern which help you to connect to the world.

The cost of purchase plus maintenance and fuel are a good value.

Good size. It seats my family and any luggage comfortably. It can lack power on very steep hills.

It's great on gas! Perfect for small families. Great on road trips

I like that its compact enough for me and my kids. I like that it has cover to hide my contents in my trunk.

Honda great for small family.

We switched to the Honda CR-V after our Nissan maxima started nickel and diming us to the point where it wasn’t worth the constant repairs. We have been very happy with the CR-V so far. It has 4wd which gives me a bit of confidence when driving in the elements. It is big enough that we can store most of our son’s baby gear (stroller, high chair, etc) in the back. Gas mileage is pretty good as well. Vehicle handles well and the brakes are not too sticky. We may have to upgrade to a van when we decide to add to our family in a couple of years.

Reliable and smooth vehicle. Plenty of room. Nice features.

Love the car. Have had no issues. Very reliable. Quiet smooth ride. Nice interior features. Love the Bluetooth. Only slight complaint is that the rear headrests sometimes cause blind spots. The interior seats are very comfortable. Lots of cupholders. Very spacious console.

Honda CR-V economical and reliable.

Rides like a car but has a lot of storage space especially with the second seat down. It is a little short for tall passengers' head room but does have good legroom. Great gas mileage around town and highway. Rear camera is not great (it is not very clear) and it is very loud on the road. Otherwise I love the comfort and reliability.

Reliable and fun to drive CR-V.

Great car with smooth ride. Not too heavy or light feeling when driving. No really bad blind spots. Have a decent amount of power to pass others. Feels safe when at higher speeds. Road noise is minimal. Maintenance is mainly normal services that are not too costly.

The back seat has a section that can fold down.

We really like the higher seating; you can see the road and surroundings better than a traditional sedan. The back section hold a lot of luggage, etc. And can fold down a small section of the back seat. In case someone wanted to sleep in there or haul something long. It is very easy to get packages and groceries in and out.
